Usually with high water comes low hopes for catching anything. This has not been the case with the Huron this season even with the river stained and still flowing deep in to the woods. As our day progressed the water temps went from the low to mid 60′s. Golden Drakes and a few Iso’s were the only hatches on the water and no risers yet. Despite the high water Chris Beck got the job done, boating a high number of quality smallies. Olive and black leach patterns were the top flies with plenty of weight to get it deep.
The season is still young and the best is yet to come. With falling water levels, more bug hatching, the days just get better and better. I have a few open days for floats coming up in the next few weeks. So, if your looking to get in to some smallie action on the Huron, Flint or Shiawassee River, now is the time.
Keep it Tight!
