Brendan Ruch – “Tying the Nut Job Series”
Sit down with Brendan and tie his signature Nut Job streamer that has become a certified fish catcher here in the Midwest and Northeast! If you’ve not learned this pattern from the man himself, your missing an opportunity to upgrade your arsenal.
BIO:
Brendan guides for smallmouth bass and musky in South Central and Southeastern Pennsylvania. He started guiding in 2018 after spending a couple of enjoyable years working at TCO Fly Shop.
He has a passion for visual eats that started as a kid watching largemouth leap out of lily pads, while still managing to grab a hollow body frog. This has had a major impact on his fly tying and lure/tactic selection.
Most of the time, he’s looking to trigger a solid fish in the most fun way possible. That could mean trying to feed a bass the largest changer in the box, sight-fishing with a foam bug, or throwing a plopper to structure.
Over the years, the focus of his tying has been on the swim fly staples with slight variations here and there. Being a guide, he’s been able to see how actions taken on the vise affect the action of the fly on a regular basis. That has been instrumental in realizing what helps, what hurts, and what isn’t necessary when spending time at the vise.
