About Schultz Outfitters
Schultz Outfitters was founded by Mike Schultz in 2003. In 2012, we opened the area’s most comprehensive fly shop, which serves as the hub for our guide and educational programs. Today, Schultz Outfitters is the longest standing and most respected catch and release guide service operating in southern Michigan and northern Indiana.

Guided Programs
SO offers guide trips for smallmouth bass, carp, pike, and steelhead year-round. We fish a number of southern Michigan and northern Indiana Rivers, with unique programs to suit all ability levels.

Payment and Cancellation Policy

Rates

Trip Price Deposit Amount
Half Day (1 or 2 persons – 4 hours) $350 $100
Full Day (1 or 2 persons – 8 hours) $500 $100

Please keep in mind that while a full day is 8 hours, this is 8 hours on the water, plus additional time for travel. A full day commitment really is a full day; however, we can do our best to help accommodate for time constraints.

A deposit of $100 secures your trip date and guide. Your date is NOT reserved until your deposit has been placed through the shop. A credit card number will be taken at time of booking regardless of whether it was used to pay the deposit. This number will remain on file with the shop. Checks can be made out and sent to Schultz Outfitters, 4 East Cross St. Ypsilanti, MI 48198. To pay by credit card, please call the shop at 734-544-1761.

Your remaining balance is due on the day of your trip, payable in the form of Venmo, cash or check directly to your guide. If a credit card will be used for full payment, please indicate that at the time of booking. A 4% convenience charge will be added to all credit card deposits and payments.

Schultz Outfitters may cancel or reschedule any trip due to adverse weather or fishing conditions; we do not cancel for rainy days. Should we decide to cancel your trip, your deposit will be applied to another open date of your choosing. Deposits will not be refunded. If you cancel your trip for any reason when the assigned guide would have planned to be on the water, your deposit will be forfeited, in addition to assessing a $100 cancellation fee ($200 total). If a date is canceled within 30 days, the full amount of the trip will be charged in full via credit card on file.

All cancellations must be made in writing via your guide’s @schultzoutfitters.com email address.

***Cancellation policy is strictly adhered to.

Your Guide
Your guide will be assigned when your deposit is received. You can expect your guide to contact you via email one week before your trip. They will exchange contact information and answer any questions you may have. Due to the characteristics of our watersheds, last minute start times and fishing location changes are possible, so please take the advice of your guide in these instances.

Emergency/Contingency Plans
In the event of an emergency or other circumstance that prevents you from reaching the meeting place on time, please contact your assigned guide immediately. A no-show with no attempt to contact your guide will result in full day trip payment via credit card on file.

Weather
Michigan weather can be unpredictable and quickly change from one extreme to another. Your guide is well aware of the weather and water conditions and the impacts they have on where you will be fishing. Please allow your guide to be the best judge of whether a trip will be negatively impacted, if not canceled due to extreme weather. In all likelihood, the forecast you are checking for your location is over an hour from where you will be fishing and has a completely different forecast.

Clothing
In summer, your primary concern should be staying comfortable while ensuring you are protecting yourself from the sun. In spring and fall, it is best to wear the correct layers starting with a moisture wicking base. Often in spring you may start your day at 40 degrees and end it in the 60-degree range. No matter the season… make sure to pack rain jacket & pants!

If you have any questions about appropriate clothing, please call Schultz Outfitters at 734-544-1761 for a recommendation. This simple act can be the difference between ending your day 5 hours into a float due to improper dress or sticking it out and having both a successful and enjoyable day.

What to Bring
Your guide will supply you with all equipment necessary. If you wish to use your own equipment, please consult with your guide. As an outfitter, we run a specific program and the right equipment can make a big difference at the end of the day. The guide may insist you utilize the provided equipment.
