Learn to tie some of Hogan’s truly unique big bass flies that were inspired and tested on the west coast but adopted globally. Here’s your chance to learn and to adapt new flavor to your Midwest offerings!

Northern California is home to some of the best largemouth, spotted, and striped bass fishing in the country. From the California Delta and Clear Lake to the beaches and bays of San Francisco for striped bass, and from the resident striped bass of the Lower Sacramento River to the world-record spotted bass in foothill reservoirs, Northern California offers some of the most diverse bass fishing opportunities anywhere.

Capt. Hogan Brown has guided and pioneered bass fishing in Northern California for over 25 years. He has guided for striped bass on the Lower Sacramento River and spotted bass in foothill reservoirs, founded the California Bass Union, and developed lines, flies, and techniques specifically designed to target all species of bass in California.

Learn his unique approach to fly tying for striped, spotted, and largemouth bass as he blends traditional California bass tactics with the innovations of some of the most creative fly anglers in the state. The result is a truly unique style of flies with applications that extend well beyond California.

Hogan is a Licensed Coast Guard Captain and California Fly Fishing Guide for 530 Outfitters. He is also a Rio Flies Signature Tier, Simms Fly Fishing Products Ambassador, Echo Rods Army Member, Scott Fly Rods Ambassador, Lamson Fly Reels Ambassador, Regal Vise Pro, Loon Outdoors Tier and Content Creator, Airflo Fly Lines Pro, and a columnist for California Fly Fisher magazine. Beyond fishing, Hogan is a die-hard and long-suffering Notre Dame football fan, a fan of ’90s to early 2000s indie rock and hip hop, a father to two teenage boys, a travel sports parent, and husband to the most amazing wife in the world, Stephanie Brown.
